Carrefour Romania is launching the fourth edition of the Pay with PET campaign, in 20 hypermarkets in the country, starting on September 22, 2022. The campaign is being run in partnership with the leader of the local beverage market, Coca-Cola HBC Romania, and GreenPoint Management.

A novelty brought this year is the intelligent equipment for the separate collection of beverage packaging (Reverse Vending Machines), technology that offers consumers the possibility to separately collect both PET and aluminum cans and glass packaging.

As in previous editions, for each PET collected, Carrefour customers receive a fruit or vegetable grown in Romania, and from this year, the same mechanism is also applied to aluminum and glass cans.

‘Pay with PET’ was launched for the first time in 2019 by Carrefour Romania, as part of the circular economy program Put a Price on Plastic, and it benefited from popularity among customers: in the first three editions, over 750,000 PETs were collected, and more than 120 tons of Romanian fruits and vegetables were exchanged in 35 hypermarkets in the country.

“As a market leader, we seek to collaborate with providers, consumers and the entire community to develop practices that can improve the quality of life. We strongly believe that by educating consumers about responsible plastic consumption and turning it into a currency, we will help customers adopt better habits. Moreover, this year we want to continue our efforts on the circular economy, and by introducing intelligent equipment for the separate collection of beverage packaging (Reverse Vending Machines), we want to show society that through responsible behavior, we can have a better, cleaner environment,” said Alina Gamauf, Member of the Carrefour Romania Executive Committee.
