“Sphera Franchise Group is a company listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, so we have a series of reporting obligations. We franchise the three brands (KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell), and have over 170 locations in Romania, Italy and the Republic of Moldova.

The large number of locations gives the business a great complexity and we have several areas that we focus on from the perspective of reducing the carbon footprint: energy consumption, logistics and products. We pay attention to the selection of raw material suppliers and we want to make the transition towards climate neutrality,” Costica Misaca, ESG Director, Sphera Franchise Group said during Sustainability in Business Forum organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest and Sustainability Today.

“The group has been present in Romania for 30 years, and I joined the company 23 years ago. Pizza Hut was the first brand opened by the Sphera Franchise Group and celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024. We try to make the employees be more responsible regarding the consumption of resources. Obviously, things have evolved, all restaurants are equipped with presence sensors for light, as well as presence sensors for water.

We pay attention to energy consumption in restaurants, especially in the context of the increase in electricity prices compared to the level of 5 years ago.

One of the biggest challenges for companies is to make employees aware of the impact of their actions on the environment and on the company’s carbon footprint.”
