“In recent years, we have taken many steps in the direction of sustainability, an enormous responsibility for each of us. Sustainability requires investments, monitoring, targets set every year, a destination you want to reach.

What is relevant for us and for the sector in which we operate is the packaging part. About 89 percent of our emissions are in Scope 3, so they do not represent our internal operations, they are not under our control but are produced along the value chain. It is not something specific only to our industry, but this is the reality: most emissions are in Scope 3. One third of Scope 3 emissions is represented by the packaging in our portfolio. Therefore, many of our investments went towards the development of sustainable packaging,” Adina Tudor, External Communication Manager, Coca-Cola HBC Romania said during Sustainability in Business Forum organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest and Sustainability Today.

“We start the sustainability process from product design. Last year we inaugurated our own recycled PET production unit in our factory in Ploiesti.

We are currently in the process of auditing and certifying the PET that we produce in Ploiesti. Based on a European calculation, recycled PET has an 80 percent lower carbon footprint than new PET. It is an initiative that brings a significant reduction in Scope 3 emissions.

Our employees benefit from a system of incentives to come up with innovative ideas through which we can improve processes and production in factories.

I think that together with the other players in the industry we can find the solutions we all need. The deposit-return system is such an example of good collaboration, with a huge amount of work behind it.”
