    RetuRO: Over 3 billion DRS containers returned in the first year after implementation

    RetuRO, the administrator of the Deposit-Return System (DRS), the largest circular economy project in Romania, announces the evolution and results of the system 12 months after implementation.

    In the first year since the DRS became operational, consumers have returned over 3 billion containers, with the collection rate in November exceeding 76 percent.

    From December 2023 through November 2024, 2.68 billion DRS packaging entered recycling stations nationwide, representing 88 percent of all collected containers.

    Over 200,000 tonnes of containers were delivered by RetuRO to recyclers between December 2023 and November 2024.

    The return rate of containers by type of material in November:

    • 77 percent plastic
    • 77 percent metal
    • 72 percent glass
