    E.ON Energie Romania launches a new edition of the “Energy in Childhood Schools” project, through a competition dedicated to primary and secondary schools in small towns in Romania. Three educational institutions will benefit from the complete modernization of the lighting system, and the school winning first place will also receive solar panels.

    The project, carried out by E.ON for over 10 years, has already reached 86 modernized schools, where over 41,300 lighting fixtures and 96,000 LED tubes have been installed. Over 54,500 students and teachers currently enjoy better conditions in their classrooms, with uniform light, which reaches 98% of the intensity of natural light. Moreover, the newly installed system contributes significantly to reducing electricity bills.

    “We are launching this competition in a new format and we hope that it will be attractive, both for teachers and staff responsible for the administrative side of schools, as well as for children, because we want to involve all beneficiaries. The prize offered by E.ON actually means good energy for schools, which will be transformed into better learning conditions for children. At the same time, we want everyone involved to understand how important it is to take care of resources, without wasting them. And this can be done without giving up comfort. On the contrary, we can improve it and be energy efficient at the same time. We are eagerly awaiting the registration of schools and I am convinced that the children’s creative ideas will inspire all of us who are concerned about the world of energy. I wish all participants much success!”, says Claudia Griech, general manager of E.ON Energie Romania.

    The competition runs from May 6 to 30, 2025 and is exclusively open to public educational institutions in small towns that have not benefited from major modernizations of the lighting system or alternative energy sources in the last five years. Registration is done online, by filling out a form available on the eon.ro website and sending relevant materials, according to the participation criteria: data on the school’s infrastructure, photos illustrating the current state of the unit and a creative activity of students on the theme “Energy for the Future”.

    The files will be evaluated from June 11 to 20 by a jury appointed by E.ON Energie Romania, taking into account criteria such as the need for modernization, the originality of the students’ activity, the quality of the submitted materials, community involvement and the size of the school. The winners will be announced on June 21, and the modernization works will take place during the summer holidays, in July and August 2025.

    The prizes offered by E.ON Energie România are:

    • 1st place – complete modernization of the lighting system + installation of solar panels;

    • 2nd place – complete modernization of the lighting system + 5 laptops and 2 interactive whiteboards;

    • 3rd place – complete modernization of the lighting system.

    “Energy in Childhood Schools” is the project through which E.ON offers help to local communities to improve educational activities, while bringing to the forefront the importance of energy efficiency in everyday life. School must be a safe, but also modern and friendly space, where children can learn in optimal conditions. By involving them in creative activities on the topic of energy, we also offer them the opportunity to better understand how they can contribute to a sustainable future, with responsibility and care for energy resources.
