For Henkel, sustainability has represented and will continue to represent an integral part of the company’s DNA. Many of Henkel’s projects in the area of sustainability have been, are, and will continue to be carried out through the active involvement and enthusiasm of the company’s employees.
A recent example in the area of community and social projects is the ‘Hope Build’ event organized this year by the partner NGO Habitat for Humanity Romania, on June 19, to which Henkel contributed financially through donations of products/construction materials from the portfolio of its Adhesives division and by involving its team of volunteers, all so that four disadvantaged families from Prahova County can enjoy their own homes this autumn.
The 36 employees – volunteers from Henkel (from all business units & functions) enjoyed the unique experience of working on the construction site, learning practical concepts about building a house, through various workshops: Construction and fireproofing roof structures, Plastering foundation footings for duplexes, Painting bathrooms, Completing exterior sills, Installing parquet/baseboards – and they shared in the dream of future residents as a new house began to take shape. All these activities/practical workshops took place at very high temperatures (30°C), with specific equipment for construction work.
“It was challenging to spend an active and hot day in boots, on the construction site, but the thought that it is all for a noble cause motivated us to continue. It was worth the effort,” declares one of the Henkel volunteers present at the site.
Henkel started the ‘Hope Build’ project in the autumn of 2024, together with Habitat for Humanity Romania, as an accelerated house-building project in just 7 days, alongside other companies. The recent event on June 19, 2025 was dedicated to the Henkel team and marked the completion and finalization of the project.
Henkel has constantly supported, financially and through volunteer employees, the social and community efforts of the partner NGO Habitat for Humanity, for the same cause – building houses for disadvantaged families and by participating, this spring, for the third consecutive year, in the Spring Marathon, „Runners for Humanity”.
Thus, in April (April 27), Henkel volunteers supported and participated in the Bucharest
Constantina Diță semi-marathon, part of the social project “Runners for Humanity”, developed
by the NGO “Habitat for Humanity Romania”. The very cold weather did not prevent Henkel volunteers from running 3.5K, 10K, or 21K together with their family members the “KM of Goodwill”.
The actions in the area of environment/sustainable development carried out by the Sustainability Council of Henkel Romania will continue this autumn with planting activities, conducted together with another partner NGO, Let’s Do It Romania.
