This non-financial partnership aims to reduce packaging waste and lower carbon emissions. The new agreement complements existing commercial contracts and supports the two companies’ joint sustainability initiatives.

The project will initially be implemented in Romania, France and Brazil, and will later be expanded to other countries in Europe and Latin America.

Through this plan, Carrefour aims to involve as many suppliers as possible in its “Food Transition for All” strategy, by assuming common, measurable objectives in key areas of sustainability. These include: reducing carbon emissions through more efficient product transportation, increasing the availability of reusable glass bottles, and launching consumer programs to encourage packaging collection and the development of recycling chains.

In Romania, the agreement signed with Coca-Cola HBC involves a shared ambition: optimizing order planning and using light trailers, which will support the reduction of emissions generated. An awareness campaign will also be launched for consumers, highlighting the role of packaging made from recycled materials in reducing environmental impact.

This will be based on Coca-Cola HBC’s portfolio bottled in bottles made from 100% recycled PET, excluding labels and caps. Bottles made from recycled PET have an 80% lower carbon footprint than those made from virgin PET resin. The aim of the two initiatives is to generate concrete and measurable benefits for the environment, contributing to the transition towards a sustainable consumption model in Romania.

Carrefour announces the launch of a new Sustainable Linked Business Plan (SLBP), developed together with The Coca-Cola Company bottlers: Coca-Cola HBC, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners and Coca-Cola FEMSA.
