Auchan Romania has released its sixth Sustainability Report, for 2025, marking a year of significant progress in reducing environmental impact, supporting local producers, and fostering a corporate culture based on responsibility and engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the year the company celebrates 20 years on the local market, the report highlights key results across environmental, social, and governance areas. These range from developing Romanian product supply chains in partnership with local producers and reducing emissions from refrigeration activities, to investing over 4 million RON in social projects and strengthening relationships with Romanian suppliers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
111 supply chains and over 90% Romanian suppliers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n By the end of 2025, Auchan Retail Romania had reached 111 responsible supply chains, including 100 developed with local producers across the country\u2014one of the largest agricultural and food partnership programs in Romanian retail. Launched in 2019, the program promotes long-term collaborations and ensures product traceability from farm to shelf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To maintain quality and transparency standards in its supply chain, the company conducted over 160 social audits in 2025 across private-label suppliers and suppliers within the program. Over 90% of Auchan\u2019s suppliers are Romanian, supporting the local economy and strengthening supply chain resilience. The retailer also offers 1,400 private-label food products manufactured in Romania by around 140 local producers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Renewable energy and carbon reduction investments<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Starting June 2025, Auchan Romania began direct energy supply through its in-house energy company, Auchan Renewable Energy, gradually expanding the number of stores powered by this model. By early 2026, 40 locations\u2014including Auchan and ATAC stores as well as headquarters\u2014were supplied through this system, with around 60% of energy coming from renewable sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The company also expanded its own renewable generation infrastructure, reaching 18 locations equipped with photovoltaic panels. In 2025, upgrades to refrigeration systems reduced Scope 1 emissions from cooling operations by 30%. Auchan aims to use 100% renewable electricity by 2030. It also introduced two electric trucks to supply supermarkets in Bucharest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A key element is extending decarbonization efforts beyond its own operations into the supply chain. Through its \u201cPartners for Decarbonization\u201d program and the 2025 Climate Supplier Event, Auchan brought together over 100 suppliers to accelerate the transition to low-emission business models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Together with BRD Groupe Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale, Auchan also launched a sustainable financing package dedicated to its suppliers\u2014an industry-first in Romania\u2014supporting investments in energy efficiency, electric mobility, and low-carbon technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIn 2025, we continued to demonstrate that sustainability delivers results when it is integrated into all business decisions. From expanding the program to reducing emissions, every step forward reflects our commitment to building a more responsible and resilient retail model. We believe the future of retail is built through collaboration, innovation, and responsibility, and the 2025 Sustainability Report reflects the meaningful steps we are taking in this direction,\u201d said Corina Dospinoiu-Imre, Sustainability Director, Auchan Retail Romania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nearly 4.5 million products saved from waste<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The \u201cZero Waste\u201d program, launched in 2019, helped save nearly 4.5 million products in 2025 by reselling food close to expiration that remains safe for consumption. Overall, 72% of generated waste was recovered through reuse, recycling, or recovery processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The company also piloted an AI-based solution in the fruit and vegetable department to improve stock management and better align orders with real consumer demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Social impact and community investment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n On the social side, Auchan Romania strengthened its community role through more than 40 social projects and over 4 million RON invested in initiatives addressing food insecurity, education, social inclusion, and vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With customer support, the company collected and donated 96 tons of food to people in need, directly contributing to reducing food waste and supporting communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Internally, Auchan continued its Personal Sustainability Program, encouraging employees to engage in volunteering activities.
