As a result, the retailer donates 2,296,845 lei to Teach for Romania, and the total investment in the 10 years of partnership thus reaches over 21.5 million lei.

The amount directly reflects customer involvement: for each school product bought from Lidl stores during the campaign, the retailer donated 1 leu each. Thus, about 2.3 million backpacks, pencil cases, notebooks, diaries and pencils meant, at the same time, concrete support for children from vulnerable communities. The funds will support the programs through which Teach for Romania brings motivated and well-trained teachers to the schools that need them most.

10 years of partnership and tens of thousands of children with access to quality education

This year’s donation comes at an anniversary moment: it is 10 years since Lidl Romania supports Teach for Romania. With the amount raised in the “Back to school” 2026 campaign, the retailer’s total investment in partnership reaches about 21,546,845 lei. The funds invested so far have contributed to the recruitment, training and support of over 3,500 alumni and teachers from the Teach for Romania network and the public education system who have taught in some of the most vulnerable communities in the country. Thanks to them, approximately 68,500 children from disadvantaged communities in over 385 schools, located in 30 counties, have benefited from quality education.

Real impact for children who need it most

The results of the Teach for Romania programs, an organization supported by Lidl Romania, can be seen in the progress of children from vulnerable backgrounds: almost all preschoolers and students in the preparatory class have made significant progress in reading and writing, and 8 out of 10 secondary school students who were experiencing major difficulties have come to read and understand texts at a functional level. Over two-thirds of primary school students have improved their numeracy skills, and beyond grades, children feel more confident and supported at school: over 85% of them say they receive emotional support and are treated with respect when they ask questions.

The next step: towards national coverage

For the next period, Teach for Romania aims, with the support of Lidl Romania, to strengthen its presence in Transylvania and in the west of the country, with activations in cities such as

Cluj, Sibiu and Timisoara, to expand in the south of Romania to reach national coverage and to attract young people from Gen Z and Gen Alpha to the department, motivating them to choose a meaningful career in education.

Teach for Romania is a non-governmental organization, part of the global Teach for All network, which seeks and prepares valuable people, with or without previous teaching experience, to become teachers in state education, for children from vulnerable backgrounds. In this way, the organization provides equitable access to quality education, and teachers trained by Teach for Romania can become agents of change in education in the long term.

Lidl, part of the Schwarz Group, headquartered in Neckarsulm, is one of the leading companies in the food retail market in Germany and Europe. Lidl currently operates around 13,000 stores and more than 230 logistics centers in 32 countries.

At Lidl, we value an optimal price-performance ratio for our customers. Simplicity and process orientation define the daily activities in stores, regional logistics centers and headquarters. In its day-to-day work, Lidl takes responsibility towards people, society and the environment. For Lidl, sustainability means keeping the promise of quality, again, every day.

Currently, Lidl has over 395,000 employees, of which over 14,000 in Romania, where the German retailer has opened over 400 stores and 6 logistics centers.

Lidl Romania announces the results of the “Back to school” campaign, carried out between August 10–30, 2026.
