“From 2016, the transformation of the business model began, and we realized that we can no longer continue with the same linear model. In the case of large companies, the transformation of the business model is no longer at the beginning, we still have steps to take to reach a circular model, but we have taken important steps in this direction,” Cristian Moldovan, Packaging Recovery Manager, Coca Cola HBC said during Circular Economy Conference organized by Sustainability Today.
“We want to continue the investments to increase the volume of recycled plastic packaging at our factory in Ploiesti. We are convinced that the implementation of SGR will help us and we expect this system to be functional.
We use 5,000 tons of recycled plastic, which represents 20% of our PET portfolio. We will not stop here. Our sustainability objectives are more ambitious than the targets imposed by the authorities.
By the single-use plastic directive, we are obliged to use 30% recycled plastic in our packaging, but we aim to reach a target of at least 50%.
Our long-term objective is to use only 100% recycled plastic PETs.
I hope that by the end of 2023 the guarantee-return system will be operational and functional. Also, I hope there is a tool through which the producers have access to the material obtained through this collection system.”
