At the General Assembly of the European Sustainable Development Network, the coordinator of the Department for Sustainable Development, within the Government of Romania, was elected as president of this entity, one of the most influential organizations active in the area of sustainability at the level of the European Economic Area and European Union.

“I am honored to hold this position that brings new opportunities for Romania in the field of sustainable development. Along with the award of the United Nations Organization and other distinctions granted to the Department for Sustainable Development in recent years, the position of ESDN president is a new confirmation of the fact that Romania is active and a regional hub in terms of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. We managed to get here through a pro-active attitude, through vision, through the desire to mobilize and through professionalism. The institutional framework for the implementation of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development and the tools we developed weighed heavily in this process. This position strengthens Romania’s external role in the area of sustainable development and gives us confidence that we are on the right track regarding the implementation of the 2030 Agenda”, declared László Borbély.

With 20 years of activity, the European Sustainable Development Network brings together more than 400 members and partners from over 40 countries. The ESDN Association, as a platform for learning and exchange of good practices, mainly deals with issues related to the preparation and implementation of national strategies and processes that serve to implement international commitments related to sustainable development. ESDN also encourages pan-European dialogue to promote sustainable development, advises and provides expertise to policy makers at European, national and sub-national level.
