About 26 million forest saplings will be planted this year, and over 12,000 hectares will be regenerated in the state forest fund, according to the National Forestry Agency (RNP) – Romsilva. Planting and regeneration activities are part of the two afforestation campaigns (spring and autumn).
According to Romsilva, out of the total of over 12,000 hectares to be regenerated, 8,102 hectares will be regenerated naturally, and another 3,985 hectares will be regenerated artificially, through afforestation works.
The budget allocated this year for carrying out all afforestation works, additions to plantations, restoration of disaster plantations, maintenance of plantations and naturally regenerated surfaces is about 296 million RON.
In the last five years, Romsilva has regenerated 72,330 hectares of forest land owned by the state, of which 48,604 hectares through natural regeneration and 23,726 hectares through afforestation works. For all the current regeneration works, afforestation works, restorations and additions, approximately 132 million forest saplings, produced in its own forestry nurseries, were used.
Romsilva manages 3.13 million hectares of state-owned forests, about 48 percent of the country’s forests.
