Orange’s circular economy program “Re” – Buy-Back, Recycling, Repair, Refurbishment is, in May, 2 years since its launch in Romania. To mark this anniversary, Orange is offering customers a 22% discount on the purchase of a refurbished phone, along with a 24-month subscription.

The campaign runs in both brick-and-mortar and online stores starting April 22, Earth Day, and ending on May 31, 2024. Refurbished phones from the Orange offer are affordable, look like new, are top-of-the-line models and have up to 2 years of warranty. In addition, Orange is the only operator in Romania that also has in its portfolio refurbished phones made with 100% original parts. At the same time, choosing a refurbished phone in favor of a new device means avoiding, on average, 25 kilograms of CO2 (GHG) by using it over a period of 1 year, as well as saving about 80 kilograms of raw materials, the amount needed to produce a 120 gram phone[i].

In addition to reconditioning, the “Re” program also includes: Buy-Back, through which customers have the opportunity to bring old, functional phones and tablets or smartwatches to any Orange store. For their gesture, they receive a voucher of at least 10 euros, which they can use when purchasing a new device. Since the launch of the program, Orange has bought back approximately 448,000 phones from customers, which have been integrated into the circular economy.

Repairing phones is an activity present in the Orange portfolio since 2005, and from 2022 it became part of the “Re” program. So far, Orange teams have repaired more than 2 million phones, thus extending their lifespan. Orange is the only European affiliate that has its own repair center, authorized by major phone manufacturers (Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Alcatel, Nokia, Huawei, etc.), which makes it possible to repair any mobile phone officially sold in Europe, both for Orange customers, as well as for those who need this service. In the repair activity, Orange uses only original parts.

Recycling – in all Orange stores there is a “Re” box for collecting phones, tablets, smartwatches, chargers or headphones that users no longer use or that no longer work. Monthly, the collected quantities are recycled or given a second life through reconditioning, with the support of Orange partners.
