Deloitte Romania has recruited Ovidiu Popescu for the position of Partner and Leader of the energy and sustainability practices. With a 20-year career in the field of professional services and having coordinated numerous and complex financial and strategic advisory projects for key players in the energy sector, and with a consistent experience in sustainable transformation projects and sustainability reporting, Ovidiu Popescu will contribute to the consolidation of Deloitte Romania’s teams and competences in consulting for the energy sector and in sustainability. He took up the new role in May 2024.

”Ovidiu joins us at a key moment, marked by diverse changes and challenges that the energy and natural resources organizations have been facing for several years, and in a context in which sustainability concerns are priorities for the business world and for the entire society, demanding pragmatic and efficient solutions, with lasting impact and bearable costs. I welcome Ovidiu to our team of partners and I am confident that his outstanding career path, which ideally combines energy consulting and ESG skills, will significantly contribute to the development of our teams and services in these fields,” said Alexandru Reff, Country Managing Partner, Deloitte Romania and Moldova.

Ovidiu Popescu started his career in 2004, as an auditor for energy companies, having developed over time a deep understanding of the sector, along its entire value chain, and has coordinated multidisciplinary teams in assisting key players from the energy sector in broad processes concerning, among others, business strategy, M&A, financial and market assessment, regulatory analysis, business valuation and dispute resolution. With a vision well-grounded in market trends and mechanisms, as well as in the increasingly dense framework of European and national regulations, he has constantly expanded his area of expertise, and in recent years he has also focused on projects to support organizations in their journey to integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria as part of their business model.

Ovidiu Popescu has a postgraduate diploma from King’s College London, obtained in 2016, is a certified expert in sustainability and energy efficiency (GRI standard), and holds CFA, FCCA and ANEVAR accreditations.

Deloitte Romania has an integrated multidisciplinary approach to the energy and natural resources sector, covering all relevant aspects for companies active in the field – tax, financing, M&A, litigation, etc.

Deloitte Romania’s Sustainability Advisory practice includes services related to fighting climate change, sustainable finance and the circular economy. Local teams assist clients in designing sustainability strategies, in developing operational transformation models to reduce carbon emissions and environmental footprint, as well as in assessments and reporting on ESG criteria, thus facilitating the development of stable and sustainable value chains.
