“The European Commission has proposed an action plan for the circular economy in March 2020, which aims to prevent and manage waste and aims to boost the EU’s competitiveness and global leadership in this area.

The circular economy is a type of business that is currently practiced all over the world. The EU wants to be a leader in this field. There is a call from the European Parliament for stricter recycling rules and mandatory targets for 2030, with intermediate targets for the use and consumption of materials in a resolution adopted in 2021,“ Alex Laibar, Executive Director ar Circular Economy Coalition (CERC) said during Circular Economy Conference organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.

“In this socio-economic context in which the access of the producers to resources becomes more and more difficult, the resources become more expensive, the delivery times increase, the provision of resources becomes a strategic issue for Romania.“

The aim of the Coalition for the Circular Economy (CERC) Association is to promote the objective principle of the EC Circular Economy Package, that of stimulating the development of new markets and business models, to develop the economy and create new jobs, by:

    – Carrying out studies and reports in the field of waste management and monitoring the results obtained because of the implementation of the fundamental elements of the circular economy

    – Concluding partnerships with national and international bodies to implement programs aimed at promoting and implementing the principles of the circular economy

    – Organizing and participating in conferences and profile events, to exchange know-how and present examples of good practice

    – Communicating with the central and local authorities as well as with the specialized committees of the Parliament, by participating in working groups and public debates, to have a correct information on the benefits that the circular economy can bring to the Romanian economy

    – Legislative compliance initiatives in all areas of waste management: design, prevention, reuse, recycling, energy recovery, by supplementing primary and subsequent legislation in the areas of: cessation of waste status, certificates of origin, compost, biogas, biomass , alternative fuels (RDF, biomethane, pyrolysis oil, etc.)

    – Promote EU Buying Green Handbook recommendations
