“Sustainability has been included in the corporate governance of large companies for many years and is part of their development strategy. Each company has performance indicators that include the area of sustainability with all pillars: economic, social and environmental.

The new CSRD directive will bring an alignment of reporting methods, so that we can compare apples to apples and see if the companies’ efforts are quantified in the same way and if they have the same impact,” Alin Ioanes, CEO Rombat said during Sustainability in Business Forum organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest and Sustainability-Today.

“I wouldn’t be scared by this reporting system, but I would be scared by the fact that we still don’t know what we have to do, what we have to report, etc. I am a little worried because there are many changes in this legislative area. There are extremely many changes and we have to think that the resources of the companies are limited, and the implementation of the reporting system is not done overnight.

Sustainability comes with a cost, and companies must be anchored in the future. I agree with the objectives of reducing CO2 emissions announced by the EU, but we must understand that there are companies that also operate in markets outside the EU, such as Africa or South America, where the environmental objectives are not at the same level. Then we have to think about how competitive we will be in a market where we don’t compare apples to apples.

We see a European trend in which all partners in the automotive industry want to reduce their carbon footprint, another sustainability indicator that we follow.”
