“Sustainability is not a side topic; it is core business for our company. Bosch was one of the forerunners when we claimed in 2020 that we are CO2 neutral referring to Scope 1 and Scope 2 according to GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. This means CO2 neutrality for the operations we do have at our locations plus the energy we purchase.
With such a statement – and it was a very bold move to do – we internalized to some extent the external costs of our business venture. By doing so, you automatically have the incentive internally to further work on your CO2 footprint,” Bernhard Gehlert, Senior VP, Commercial Director, Bosch Automotive Blaj said during Sustainability in Business Forum organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest and Sustainability-Today.
“To be frank, when we talked about CO2 neutrality, of course you need to buy some CO2 credits to offset some of your footprint. But with that you have a huge incentive to work in a very structured way on measurements to bring these costs down. It’s saving basically. Therefore, we are having four pillars to work on our CO2 neutrality. The most important thing is to save energy. This can only be done with thousands of projects to find ways to reduce energy consumption.
Working on energy saving is the most important leverage to be competitive in the market. We are also engaged in installing new green energy capacities, either on our premises or in collaboration with other providers to add new green energy to the market.
We buy green energy from suppliers wherever possible, and we buy CO2 credits to offset the remaining impact of our activities.”
