    RetuRO: Packaging collection rate reached 69 percent in December 2024

    RetuRO, the administrator of the Deposit-Return System (DRS), the largest circular economy project in Romania, announces the latest evolution and results of the system.

    Since the launch of the DRS until the end of 2024, consumers have returned over 3.36 billion containers, with the collection rate in December 2024 exceeding 69 percent.

    From December 2023 through December 2024, over 3.2 billion DRS packaging entered recycling stations nationwide, representing 95 percent of all collected containers.

    Over 231,300 tonnes of containers were delivered by RetuRO to recyclers between December 2023 and December 2024.

    The return rate of containers by type of material in December 2024:

    • 70 percent plastic
    • 74 percent metal
    • 62 percent glass
