Investments in the field of water and wastewater are important in Romania, but we still have a lot to recover, said on Wednesday the Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Mircea Fechet.
“I always think about this economic side and what business opportunities it brings with the policies we manage in the ministry, just as I always wonder if we are not harming the business environment in the absence of adequate consultation or having some well-thought-out measures in advance. All in all, I draw the line and can say that we can have a cleaner environment and, at the same time, we can have a more stable and healthier economic ecosystem. Regarding water, an extremely generous theme, I think it is good to know exactly where we started from and where we are (…) More than 30 years ago, the chances of having access to a water network or a sewage network were almost zero. That’s where we started… Today, when we discuss, we have invested enormously, we have recovered enormously, but at the same time, we must be honest and say that we still have a lot to recover, and this can only be an opportunity for the business environment, for Romanian companies and not only, for those who put the latest technologies on the market. And in the field of water management, things have evolved, without a doubt,” said Mircea Fechet, Agerpres reads.
He added that Romania is very lucky from a hydrographic point of view, with significant water resources, both in terms of groundwater and surface water. “At the same time, we must not make fun of this resource, we must force ourselves to save water, we must learn to reuse water. And I say with regret, in these two chapters we have a lot to recover, to be polite, but I think that climate change is already teaching us that we must be much more cautious about the use of water,” Fechet added.
The Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania) organized, on Wednesday, an event dedicated to water and wastewater management, attended by representatives of the relevant ministries and the business environment.
