BRD Groupe Société Générale is launching, for the first time on the Romanian market, a Sustainability-Linked Loan (SLL) specifically designed for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs).

This financing solution is intended to encourage the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives into the business strategies of SMEs, by offering interest margin adjustments based on the achievement of pre-agreed sustainability performance indicators.

Eligible beneficiaries are companies with an annual turnover exceeding EUR 10 million, seeking loans of at least EUR 1 million, that have already implemented or plan to implement sustainability goals and/or ESG factors within their operations.

“With this innovative product, BRD takes a significant step toward democratizing sustainable finance by offering SMEs access to instruments that were previously available only to large corporations. This initiative reflects our ambition to be a benchmark in sustainable financing in Romania and to support the long-term transformation of the local economy,” said Jean-Philippe Guillaume, Deputy CEO of BRD and Head of Corporate Banking.

The loan is available both for working capital financing (with a maturity of 2 or 3 years) and for investment purposes (such as equipment acquisition), over medium or long-term horizons. Its structure is tailored to the specific needs of each client, while maintaining a generalist rather than sector-specific approach. ESG performance is monitored periodically, and the loan margin may be adjusted annually (upward or downward), depending on the sustainability results achieved.
