Ținutul Buzăului grows through local engagement: results of the 2025 collaboration with Ursus Breweries

    Published on

In 2025, the partnership between Ursus Breweries and the Ținutul Buzăului Association contributed to the development of new regional attractions, the strengthening of tourism infrastructure, and the creation of new opportunities for local communities in the UNESCO International Geopark Ținutul Buzăului, which recently underwent its reaccreditation process.

With over 30 volunteers actively involved in fieldwork and projects supporting responsible local tourism, the collaboration confirms that meaningful investments can generate real impact in communities. This partnership began in 2022 and is built around a simple yet essential idea: local communities grow sustainably through support, and local tourism can become a genuine engine for economic, social, and educational development.

Ținutul Buzăului, which spans 18 communes and an area of 1,036 km², attracts more than 100,000 visitors annually. However, most are currently day-trippers, mainly concentrated around well-known attractions such as the Mud Volcanoes in Scorțoasa and the Amber Museum in Colți.

In this context, one of the key development directions for the region is to create opportunities that encourage visitors to stay longer, explore more routes, and better connect with the local identity.

“Ținutul Buzăului needs partners willing to invest in showcasing the region’s natural and cultural resources, in order to turn its potential into real opportunities for communities. For us, development means not only infrastructure and promoting new tourist attractions, but also creating experiences that convince people to spend more time here, discover more places, return, and interact with local life. We need to provide more reasons for tourists to choose Ținutul Buzăului for their leisure time, weekends, or longer stays, and the partnership with Ursus Breweries helps us build exactly in this direction: a vibrant, attractive destination that benefits local communities,” said Răzvan-Gabriel Popa of the Ținutul Buzăului Association.

More Reasons to Visit, More Benefits for Communities

The activities supported in 2025 by Ursus Breweries were designed precisely to meet this need: new experiences for visitors, improved infrastructure, and initiatives that can help transform day-trippers into weekend or longer-stay tourists.

“For us at Ursus Breweries, having our largest brewery in the city of Buzău naturally comes with a desire to be involved in the community. We aim to support initiatives that highlight local identity, create opportunities for people, and bring real long-term benefits. Through our partnership with the Ținutul Buzăului Association, we have the chance to support the promotion of an area with remarkable cultural and natural heritage, still insufficiently recognized, and we are glad to contribute in a concrete way to the communities that bring this place to life,” said Robert Uzună, Vice President Corporate Affairs at Ursus Breweries.

This year, the partnership goes one step further. Ursus volunteers, association specialists, and the local community are working together to protect Poiana Coziancei, a special place where nature and history meet.

Ecological restoration actions and improvements to visitor trails leading to the famous Late Antiquity rock settlements are underway. At the same time, partners are working to designate this area as a Local Protected Area managed by the community, ensuring that the meadow is preserved while supporting local development.
