ECOTIC and the Union of Professional Journalists of Romania (UZPR) are launching the third edition of the “Journalism for a Clean Environment” competition, an initiative aimed at supporting and advancing environmental journalism in Romania.
The competition is open to journalists, reporters, vloggers, and bloggers who produce media content on environmental topics, regardless of the communication channel they use.
Participants may submit entries covering one or more of the following themes:
- Climate change and biodiversity
- Environmental education in the school system
- The Circular Economy and its impact on the economy and society
- Waste management and recycling (including Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment – WEEE, and Waste Portable Batteries and Accumulators – WPBA)
- The use of renewable energy and reducing the carbon footprint
Eligible submissions include articles, photo essays, blog posts, vlogs, video reports, podcasts, and radio or television programmes. Both newly created and previously published materials addressing the listed topics are welcome.
Entries will be evaluated by a jury comprising representatives of the Romanian Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, ECOTIC, UZPR, and InfoCons. The jury will select the most outstanding media materials based on their quality and relevance.
Winners will receive Altex gift cards, with the prize value increasing according to the ranking achieved.
The First Prize winner will receive the award during the Clean Environment Awards Gala 2026, Romania’s flagship event dedicated to recognising excellence in environmental protection.
“We are launching a new edition of the national Journalism for a Clean Environment competition with the aim of encouraging the development of journalists specialised in environmental issues in Romania. Just as we have business, political, cultural, or sports journalism, it is only natural to have environmental journalism capable of communicating environmental legislation and policies, promoting best practices, and highlighting the contribution each of us can make to the transition towards a circular economy,” said Valentin Negoiță, President of ECOTIC.
The submission deadline is 25 November 2026.
