Leroy Merlin 2025 Impact Report: more than 1.3 million euros invested in communities

    Published on

Leroy Merlin, a retailer specializing in construction, home improvement, decoration and gardening, reduced its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 20% between 2021 and 2025, while 75.5% of the energy it used came from renewable sources. According to its 2025 Impact Report, the company also helped avoid 577,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions through the products and solutions it offers customers.

Leroy Merlin’s sustainability strategy is built around two main pillars: people development and home improvement. Its objective is to reduce its own environmental impact while helping people improve their homes.

In 2025, Leroy Merlin launched the “Energy Savings” initiative, offering customers products and solutions designed to improve their homes’ energy efficiency and support the transition to renewable energy. The company also promotes the use of renewable energy sources and provides related information both in-store and online.

“For us, sustainability means looking at the company’s performance beyond business results and understanding the impact we have on people, homes and the environment. In 2025, we continued to turn this approach into concrete action, from reducing our own emissions and developing more sustainable solutions for customers to investing in people and communities. We aim to continue on this path and contribute, through our everyday activities, to a more responsible way of living,” said Mihaela Voinea, Sustainability Development Director at Leroy Merlin Romania.

People development remains a key priority for the company. At the end of 2025, Leroy Merlin Romania had approximately 3,750 employees, with an employee retention rate of 88.6%.

As part of the Pass for Leadership programme, two editions were held in 2025, involving 19 participants. The programme contributed to the development of a community of 90 colleagues and helped strengthen internal mobility and career progression.

Between 2017 and 2025, approximately 50% of participants progressed to higher-level roles, highlighting the programme’s contribution to talent development and internal mobility.

As part of its circular economy efforts, Leroy Merlin continues to develop in-store collection and recycling solutions, including for electrical and electronic equipment, batteries and light bulbs. The company also organizes annual Christmas tree collection campaigns to support their reuse or recycling.

In 2025, 91.8% of the waste generated was sorted.

At the same time, the company encourages responsible consumption by promoting products with longer lifespans and supporting product repairability, including through extended warranties of more than two years. Leroy Merlin also works with its suppliers to assess and progressively reduce the carbon footprint of its products throughout their entire life cycle.

At community level, Leroy Merlin Romania invested more than €1.3 million in social responsibility projects implemented at both national and local levels, focusing on education, the environment and health.

In addition, 91 employees took part in volunteering activities, contributing a total of 734 hours to community initiatives.
