Kaufland maintains its position in the top of the largest retail companies in Romania, by turnover, and continues to be one of the most important private employers, according to the socio-economic impact study of the company for the financial year 2023, prepared by KPMG.

In the financial year 2023, Kaufland had a total contribution of 2.57 billion euros (Gross Added Value – GVA) to the local economy, which represents 0.9 percent of Romania’s GDP.

Last year, Kaufland invested 177 million euros in Romania in terms of CAPEX, more precisely, for the purchase of fixed assets. In addition, it made a contribution to the state budget of 282 million euros, through fees and taxes.

Kaufland is one of the largest private employers in Romania, with 17,200 employees, of which around 14,350 are full-time employees. The salary scale and benefits package are constantly being improved, in 2023 the minimum net salary at Kaufland exceeds the national minimum net salary by 56 percent.

Through its activity, the company generated more than 105,600 full-time jobs in Romania, directly, indirectly and induced, equivalent to approximately 2.1 percent of the national workforce. The impact study shows that each Kaufland direct employee in Romania supports the employment of more than 6 people in the entire Romanian economy, by creating new jobs.

Our impact goes beyond numbers, it is measured in stronger communities, stable jobs and opportunities for local businesses. Through our constant investments and long-term partnerships, we are building a solid foundation for Romania’s future. This study confirms that we are on the right track, but also that our responsibility is increasing. We remain dedicated to our mission to contribute to a sustainable Romania, where every euro invested returns multiplied to society,” said Marco Hößl, General Manager of Kaufland Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

Last year, Kaufland was involved in the development and implementation of social responsibility projects worth 9.7 million euros, including two funding programs through which Kaufland offers non-refundable grants to non-governmental organizations. The company is among the biggest supporters of NGOs fighting for causes such as health, environmental protection, education, healthy living and sports or culture.
