“Sustainability is at the heart of our business model for more than five decades. Our ambition is to lead The Resource Revolution, an objective achieved through the positive impact of our  technology in several  sectors: collection, recycling, mining and food industry.

We have the desire to become a circular company and to contribute to the creation of a safe, fair and inclusive environment. To fulfil this vision, we focus on 5 strategic areas, which we consider important in minimizing the negative impact on the company, our partners or the environment.

First is the resource productivity, the sustainability impact enabled from TOMRA products in use. Then the sustainable design of our products, the reduction of carbon emissions in our operations throughout the value chain. We also look at the sustainability of the supply chain, but also at the social impact, including the value we bring to the market and to our employees,” Dorin Mihai, General Manager, TOMRA Collection Romania said during Sustainability in Business Forum organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest and Sustainability Today.

“We have targets and objectives to achieve by 2030. Together with our partners and through collaboration with the entire value chain, we want that, by 2030, 40 percent of plastic packaging will be collected for recycling and 30% will be recycled in a closed loop. Today, only 2 percent of the plastic packaging collected for recycling is actually recycled in a closed loop. , Our solutions serve systems such as the -deposit-return system in which the collected packaging can be reintroduced into the economy, through what we call Clean-loop recycling :

The packaging collected through RVMs have the best quality compared to those collected through any other system at the moment . Our goal is to facilitate the collection of up to 500 billion packages by 2030, through the solutions we offer at global level.

We are focusing to reduce CO2 emissions from operational transport by 80 percent and we have carried out a series of actions in this regard. We use electric and hybrid cars; we use and continuously develop software applications through which we can control processes remotely to solve various challenges that might occurring the field, thus saving CO2 emissions. 90 percent in our future solutions will be sustainable materials and components.

50 percent of our products will be circular. At the end of their life, will be repaired, refurbished, reused or recycled by us or through our partners.

We envisage a safe environment for our employees, with zero accidents at work. And even if we are a company with very technical solutions, we want to offer women the opportunity to choose our company, why not even up to 50% of our employees, if it will be possible.

We will continue to invest in research and development to optimize solutions needed by our clients and partners. 8% of our turnover is allocated annually for research and development activities.”
