Auchan Romania expands its drink packaging return options for PET, aluminium, and glass containers marked with the DRS symbol by introducing a system capable of receiving all three types of packaging in bulk—without requiring prior separation by the consumer. The Auchan Militari hypermarket in Bucharest is currently the first store in the Auchan network equipped with this new system.

This solution, developed by Tomra, redefines the standard for collecting DRS-labelled packaging made of plastic, glass, and metal, simplifying the return process for consumers.

The new system follows the same principle of returning packaging marked with the DRS symbol, with the key difference being the ability to insert multiple items at once. After depositing the containers, the customer receives the 50 bani deposit back for each correctly returned item, issued as a voucher by the machine. The voucher lists the number of returned containers and the total refunded deposit amount.

At national level, the Auchan Romania network includes over 140 in-feed recycling units across all stores. The cities with the highest number of DRS collection and recycling machines (RVMs) are Bucharest, Timișoara, Cluj, and Constanța.
