The Saint-Gobain Foundation, alongside Habitat for Humanity Romania, has contributed to the recovery of the community in Broșteni, Suceava County, which was severely affected by the floods in the summer of 2025.    

The project aimed to support 10 vulnerable families affected by natural disasters by rebuilding their homes and improving their living conditions, thereby helping to combat housing poverty and the risk of social exclusion. Saint-Gobain Foundation contributed with a 100 000 EUR donation.

On July 28^th, 2025, severe overnight flooding in eastern part of Romania caused loss of life and affected thousands of households. In Broșteni, one of the worst-hit areas, around 300 homes were damaged and 40 were destroyed, with road access temporarily blocked. Many families were evacuated and left homeless.

The project implemented by Habitat for Humanity Romania included:

• emergency kits, technical support and temporary assistance for affected families;
• repair and rehabilitation of damaged homes;
• projects aimed at building community resilience through training and strengthening local infrastructure.

Habitat for Humanity Romania has integrated the project into its rapid crisis response programmes, combining immediate interventions with long-term solutions for decent housing and communities better prepared to cope with natural disasters.
