RetuRO: Return rate of beverage containers exceeds 90% for the second consecutive month

    Published on

RetuRO, the administrator of Romania’s Deposit-Return System (DRS) and the country’s largest circular economy project, announces the program’s evolution and results for the period January–September 2025.

In September, the Deposit-Return System registered another positive performance: return rates for all three material types – PET, aluminum, and glass – exceeded 90% for the second consecutive month.

In September alone, over 507 million beverage containers were collected, representing 94% of the total placed on the market, a percentage similar to that recorded in August.

In the first nine months of 2025, Romanians returned more than 4 billion deposit-marked containers, while RetuRO delivered over 290,000 tons of materials – PET, aluminum, and glass – to recycling partners.

With a collection rate of 82% in the first nine months of the year, the Deposit-Return System continues to support Romania’s transition to a circular economy, mobilizing millions of citizens to adopt environmentally responsible behavior.
