    RetuRO: 667 million packaging items collected in the first two months of the year

    RetuRO, the administrator of Romania’s Deposit-Return System—the country’s largest circular economy project—announces the progress and results of the program for February 2026.

    The results recorded in February 2026 confirm the steady evolution of the Deposit-Return System. During the month, over 311 million packaging items were collected, compared to 364 million introduced onto the market, corresponding to a return rate of over 85 percent In the first two months of this year, Romanians returned approximately 667 million beverage packaging items, compared to 694 million placed on the market, and RetuRO delivered around 59,000 tons of materials to recyclers.

    Since the launch of Romania’s Deposit-Return System, over 9.2 billion packaging items have been collected, with more than 677,000 tons of materials sent to recyclers. The Deposit-Return System continues to support Romania’s transition to a circular economy, mobilizing millions of Romanians to adopt environmentally responsible behavior.
