RetuRO, the administrator of Romania’s Deposit Return System (DRS) and the country’s largest circular economy project, announced that more than 10 billion beverage packaging units have been collected since the system was launched.
In the two and a half years since its implementation, RetuRO has delivered more than 700,000 tons of high-quality recyclable materials — including PET, aluminum, and glass — to recycling companies, directly supporting Romania’s recycling industry. For comparison, this quantity is equivalent to the weight of 15 ships the size of the RMS Titanic or a convoy of 30,000 trucks stretching along the route between Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca.
With a collection rate of 85% in 2026, the Deposit Return System continues to support Romania’s transition toward a circular economy, encouraging millions of Romanians to adopt more environmentally responsible behavior.
