RetuRO, the administrator of the Deposit-Return System (DRS), is launching a pilot project in the Capital to promote environmental education. Facilitating the collection of packaging in public spaces by installing special compartments on municipal trash cans where passers-by can leave SGR packaging – bottles, PETs or cans – to be later taken over by people who want to return them and recover the value of the deposit, is an approach through which RetuRO wants to encourage responsible behavior with regard to the environment.
The new systems installed offer the opportunity for citizens in parks, promenade areas or other places where there are no return points in the immediate vicinity, to leave DRS packaging in specially arranged compartments, from where they can be easily retrieved later, without affecting the cleanliness of public spaces, by people interested in recovering the 50 bani deposit.
The project, inspired by initiatives already operational in countries such as the Netherlands and Ireland, is being implemented in a first stage in Bucharest, in Kiseleff and Bazilescu parks, in partnership with the City Hall of Sector 1, the integrated communication agency Oxygen and the CSR Nest Association, and is to be expanded in the coming period to other sectors of the Capital in collaboration with local authorities.
“The initiative we are launching today is not only a practical solution for packaging collection, but also a form of solidarity expressed through simple, everyday gestures. It reflects our commitment to responding to real needs in the community, to offering each of us the chance to contribute, simply and naturally, to the common good. Each package left in a special compartment can become a conscious step towards a circular economy that takes into account the social realities in which it operates,” said Anca Marinescu, Corporate Affairs and Communication Manager, RetuRO.
“This project is a concrete example of how simple gestures can generate a real impact. Each bottle, PET or can left in a special compartment means respect for those around us, care for the environment and involvement in community life. A clean city is built through hard work, presence and solidarity – and these values guide us in every decision we make for people,” said Iulian Hatmanu, Deputy Mayor of Sector 1.
