Auchan Romania: Customers buy an average of 1,000 pre-owned clothing items daily

    Published on

More than 360,000 pre-owned clothing items were sold last year alone through the “A New Life by Auchan” shop-in-shop concept, a circular economy project launched locally for the first time. Five years after its debut, the concept is now available in several Auchan hypermarkets across the country, offering customers a wide range of pre-worn garments starting at just 5 lei, encouraging textile reuse and more responsible consumption.

“A New Life” shops are currently available in selected Auchan hypermarkets in Brașov, București, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Târgu Mureș, Deva, and Oradea. Among them, the Auchan Coresi store in Brașov recorded the highest sales last year.

In dedicated in-store areas, customers can find clothing for women, men, and children — including blouses, T-shirts, shirts, coats, jackets, trousers, jeans, dresses, and sportswear — all pre-worn but in excellent, resale-ready condition. The project is carried out in partnership with a specialized retail chain, with prices ranging between 5 and 260 lei.

“Throughout the 20 years of activity that we are celebrating this year, we have consistently invested in programs that provide customers with concrete solutions for more responsible consumption. Continuing the ‘A New Life’ project confirms our commitment to integrating circular economy principles directly into everyday shopping experiences. ‘A New Life’ is not just a space dedicated to reused clothing, but a real step toward reducing the textile industry’s impact and encouraging more conscious consumer behavior,” said Corina Dospinoiu-Imre, Sustainability Director, Auchan Retail Romania.

According to public data, the textile industry generates approximately 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, while only 1% of textiles are recycled worldwide. By integrating pre-worn garments alongside its private-label INEXTENSO textile collections directly within hypermarkets, Auchan offers customers an affordable and responsible alternative for clothing purchases.
