STRABAG Romania becomes strategic partner of the Ambulance for Monuments to support the safeguarding of a historic landmark in Sibiu

    Published on

STRABAG Romania has become a strategic partner of the Ambulance for Monuments and is supporting the organization’s efforts to protect Romania’s built heritage through a sponsorship of €50,000. The amount is being used to secure the central building and the gymnasium of the former Ursuline Convent in the historic center of Sibiu, with the aim of reintegrating it into the cultural circuit.

The project, taking place 5 weeks, from April to May 2026, involves essential consolidation and safety works, including the rehabilitation of the roof structure, the replacement of the deteriorated roofing with traditional materials, the restoration of drainage systems, and the removal of damaged structural elements. The work will ensure the stability of the buildings and enable the future use of the spaces. The interventions are being carried out by the Ambulance for Monuments teams, with STRABAG Romania acting as a financial supporter of the initiative.

“Through this partnership, we aim to support the protection of built heritage by enabling interventions where they are most urgently needed. For us, being present locally in the region of Sibiu, also means backing initiatives that make a visible difference in the communities we work in. Restoring sites of historical value becomes a field of growing relevance, means not only preserving the past, but also creating spaces relevant for the future,” – Technical Subdivision Manager, STRABAG România

“We appreciate that a major constructor like STRABAG is looking not only at what can be built, but also at what deserves to be saved and brought back to life. Protecting existing heritage is often the more difficult path, and this kind of partnership reflects a broader understanding of responsibility in the construction field.”, Eugen Vaida, Co-Founder & President, Ambulanța pentru Monumente

The former Ursuline Convent in the historic center of Sibiu will be reintroduced into the cultural circuit. The monument, owned by the Catholic Church in Alba Iulia and leased to the Brukenthal von Studio Foundation, is an important historical landmark, with origins in the 15th century and significant transformations during the Baroque period. Once the building has been restored and reinforced, it will be able to be reintroduced into the cultural circuit for various events, including the Sibiu International Theater Festival. The completion of the project will make it possible to organize, between June and August 2026, an anniversary exhibition dedicated to the 10 years of activity of the Ambulance for Monuments, held as part of the Sibiu International Theater Festival. The exhibition will include a retrospective of the over 120 interventions carried out by the organization, as well as a selection of equipment and materials used in the field. Concurrently, the ground floor of the building will host a large-scale exhibition titled Transylvania | Extravaganza, curated by artist Ștefan Câlția.
