PENNY Romania donated over 5,400 tons of food to regional food banks in 2025

Through regular donations from its stores and all five logistics centers across the country, PENNY contributed 5,401 tons of food in 2025, valued at more than 11 million euros, to vulnerable communities in Romania. The food was donated through the Romanian Food Banks Network, part of the Romanian Federation of Food Banks (FBAR).

The partnership between PENNY and the nine Regional Food Banks focuses on collecting food products that are close to their expiration date but still safe for consumption from PENNY stores and logistics centers, and redistributing them to partner organizations.

In 2025, PENNY donated food from more than 380 stores nationwide throughout the year. Donations also included all five logistics centers in the network, ensuring a constant flow of safe food products to the Regional Food Banks.

“The partnership with the Food Banks is not just a social responsibility initiative – it is an integral part of how we understand PENNY’s role within the community. Every donated product means less waste and more support for vulnerable people. We continue to invest in this direction, convinced that a responsible food supply chain can contribute to the well-being of those in need. The 5,401 tons of food donated last year are a result we are proud of, and we aim to continue on the same path in the future,” said Dan Crișan, COO PENNY | REWE Romania.

“The strategic partnership with PENNY continues to grow and generate real impact every day. In 2025, 5,401 tons of donated food were transformed into approximately 10 million meals for thousands of vulnerable people across the country. It is a story of solidarity where sustainability becomes action. Every redirected food product means a valuable resource recovered and support for someone who needs it most. We thank PENNY and the entire team for their involvement, trust, and support. Together, we continue to reduce the gap between waste and need and deliver food where it can make a real difference,” said Romuald Bulai, President of the Romanian Federation of Food Banks.
